Bush Professor Regional Tour 2016-2018

Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts & Culture Centre is proud to present the regional tour ofYidumduma Bill Harney: Bush Professor. The retrospective of the career of Yidumduma Bill Harney, curated by Margie West AM and first shown at GYRACC in 2016, will travel to nine regional and remote venues across the country commencing at Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute, Adelaide.

Bill Harney is regarded by many as a national living treasure, the quintessential Renaissance man using his paintings, carvings, songs and storytelling to communicate his Indigenous knowledge to the world. The regional tour is a chance to showcase the lifetime's work of one of the last fully initiated Wardaman elders and share his intimate knowledge of the stories and history of his people before these oral traditions pass out of memory.

Bill Harney is a widely exhibited artist, with major paintings held at the Museum and Art Gallery of the NT in Darwin and the University of Sydney’s Law School. He has performed the traditional music and stories of his people at venues around the world including the Sydney Opera House, Darwin Festival and at school, universities and festivals in the USA.
