Arts Trail

July/August 2023 – Building Through the Dry

The Dry Season visitors are arriving, with caravans in town, festival and events happening, and ongoing work to transform Godinymayin keeping us busy. The Centre continues to welcome hundreds of people each week, and our recent public programming has seen comedy and live music, art and technology projects, public art and community identity, as well as the two spectacular exhibitions from Merrepen Arts and Djilpin Arts (on view through 2 September). This Dry Season we’ve also presented a wide range of creative development workshops—including a free series of activities for young people during the June/July school holidays.

And all around us, the Arts Trail construction continues to change the landscape. Australia’s next great outdoor Amphitheatre is taking shape—with the audience seating area and retaining walls now in place. The new deck and outdoor cafe will appear next, and soon we’ll begin calling for expressions of interest from qualified operators wanting to operate the new food and beverage destination at Godinymayin!

The popular Godinymayin retail shop continues to be a centre of attention—with creative objects, fabrics, cards, clothing, and more awaiting your visit. But get here before September—when we expect a public closure for most of the month, to accommodate the major construction on our new facade and Amphitheatre roof. All of the expansion works are now scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, just in time for our team to plan an exciting re-opening celebration in 2024, and a Dry Season program like Katherine has never seen!
