Arts Trail

April 2023 – Australia’s Newest Amphitheatre

As we await the knock ’em down storm season, that will give way to the Dry, the Arts Trail construction has moved on to the building of Australia’s next great outdoor amphitheatre. With the foundation work underway, and concrete being poured from early April, visitors will start to see a new footprint—and the shape of Godinymayin’s future. On the North side, the metal frame is in place for our future office annex. And between car park and entrance, the footings for a new entryway are now in place.

Inside our building we just opened two new exhibitions, Wild Things! (in partnership with Darwin-based Wild North Comics) and BLAK on a Hot Tin Roof (featuring the latest work by Kamahi Djordon King). And we have extended the Big and Deep Rivers portrait exhibition to the Laneway Gallery—continuing our celebration of 2023 International Women’s Day.

Initial demolition of our front entrance is now complete, with major works and public closure now scheduled between mid-June and early-August. Earthworks continue to shape what will become the new outdoor seating area, audience terrace, and new deck. The team at Katherine Constructions are working hard with a multitude of contractors, hoping for an October completion date.

The Centre continues to diversify the retail shop inventory, with new items added monthly. Our team invites you to visit Godinymayin, view our exhibitions, come for a workshop or live event, and help us welcome the Dry Season visitors that will soon be arriving.
