When young Romeo and his entourage sneak into the Capulet Ball, the two lovers have a chance encounter which leads to the purest of love.

Young Juliet is betrothed to Paris, a young prince of Verona, by her family’s wishes. The young couple keep their relationship hidden, secretly marrying in hope of finding a future together. The pair’s fortune does not last long, with the death of Romeo’s best friend Mercutio leading him to murder Juliet’s cousin Tybalt in an angry rage. This causes the young Romeo to depart Verona with Juliet left waiting for his return.

Juliet’s parents push for her marriage to Paris causing Juliet to seek assistance from Friar Lawrence to fake her death to be with Romeo. When young Romeo does not receive the news of Juliet’s plan, a tragic series of events occur that see the young couple make the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of love.

Choreographed by Artistic Director Michael Pappalardo and featuring Principal Artists Yuiko Masukawa and Brendan Bradshaw, Romeo & Julietis Melbourne City Ballet’s most raw production and an event not to be missed. Featuring completely new choreography and taking the audience on a journey to the city of Verona and into the lives of the two star-crossed lovers, expect beautiful costumes, cleverly designed sets and an unmistakably evocative score in this timeless production.

Please note this performance is 120 minutes plus two 15 minute intervals.
