Big Sky by Adam Ferguson offers a compelling photographic exploration of Australia’s heartland. Drawing from his childhood memories and extensive travels, Ferguson captures the essence of rural life, the decline of small towns, and the deep Aboriginal connection to the land. He highlights the effects of globalization and the challenges posed by climate change, all while questioning and redefining traditional notions of Australian identity. Spanning a decade, this photographic survey showcases the fading of traditional events and the intricate realities of contemporary life in the Outback.

Barkly Artists represent painters from four communities: Canteen Creek, Epenarra, Tennant Creek, and Elliott. Covering about 283,648 square kilometers, Barkly Regional Arts serves up to 20% of the Northern Territory.

Epenarra artists, from a small community of around 150, focus on landscape painting, using colors that reflect the dramatic changes in their environment.

Tennant Creek artists adopt a naive style influenced by the late Peggy Jones and Susannah Nakamarra Nelson, often incorporating religious themes and patterns reminiscent of Epenarra’s work.

Canteen Creek artists, located about 50 km from Epenarra, create detailed depictions of bush medicine and bush tucker, showcasing their community pride. Overall, there is no singular style among Barkly Artists, but common themes of spinifex, bush medicine, and landscape prevail.
