Here at Godinymayin, we are honoured to host this special 6 April performing arts event—The Jingili Song Project—and invite you to join us when Stuart Joel Nuggett takes the stage supported by Darwin-based musicians David Garnham & The Reasons to Live.

Featured musician Stuart Joel Nuggett is a Jingili man from Kulumindini (Elliott) now based in Alice Springs / Mparntwe. He is the driving force and voice behind the Jingili Song Project and performs music in both English and Jingulu. Stuart (Jingili Name: Kirriyangunji — pronounced: Girri-yar-ga-newn-jee) and his family are some of the last speakers of the language, and are working to preserve, share, and sustain it in the Northern Territory. Stuart was guided by his mother Janet Sandy-Gregory when writing many of the lyrics for the Jingili Song Project—making this program a very special family effort.

While touring in the Territory with the Jingili Song Project, the musicians are also offering workshops for schools and community centres—participatory sessions to teach and foster new works in language, while promoting the new Jingulu-language single Ilbingini (When the water goes down).

The Jingili Song Project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body. All events and public programming at Godinymayin are also supported by the Northern Territory Government and Katherine Town Council. Reserve your place at this upcoming evening of music, language, and culture.

Doors and bar open at 6:30PM
