One of our favourite events of the year is Junk Festival, the community-wide creative celebration powered by Katherine Regional Arts. It’s all about reducing, recycling, and re-using—and making something new and creative out of our junk! And that includes some pretty spectacular wearable art and fashion.
This Dry Season, we’ve partnered with Katherine Regional Arts to exhibit a showcase of wonderful trash fashions in our Laneway Gallery—on view now through 24 June. Stop by and step into a world of curious and interesting wearable art from creative people in our community. See how they’ve transformed discarded plastic, cotton, cardboard, and other forms of junk into stunning new outfits. Get inspired and join in the Junk Festival ethic of recycling and re-using—and making new art!
About Junk Festival
Junk Festival, an iconic Katherine event recently celebrated its eleventh year. The community-wide gathering is all about reducing, recycling, and re-using—and carries a message to help us all reduce our waste and think more about environmental impact.
The Katherine Regional Arts signature event also celebrates our community spirit through art, music, design, and fashion (like the outfits you’ll find in our Laneway Gallery). The effort sends an important message that the Big Rivers region cares about our local environments, where our waste goes, and how it is recycled. Reduce the junk, and increase the creativity! Our Godinymayin team invites you to stop in and view selections of Trash Fashion from the 2023 Junk Festival. And we hope you’ll visit Katherine regional Arts, get involved in their creative development opportunities, and mark your calendar for the 2024 Junk Festival!
